Adopting an Animal

Adopting a pet involves love, empathy and careful decision making, followed by paperwork and logistics.

Step One: Get into Contact with us

If you would like to adopt one of our animals, the first step is to get into contact with us. This way we can learn more about you, your lifestyle and which dog or cat would be a great addition to your family. We cater as much as possible for people who have chosen an animal that they want to adopt, usually we can make it work – but it must be the right home for the right animal.

Step Two: Getting to Know Each Other

After this, we arrange to get to know you better, and to see where the animal will be living. Most times we will arrange for someone to meet you in person and complete a home check. If you can come to the Argolida area, we can arrange for a meeting here. But we can also arrange for a different place to meet.

Step Three: Preparing all Medical and Legal Stuff

When you adopt a pet from us, it will be vaccinated, microchipped and it will have an official EU pet passport for international travel. For any pet adopted from us we ask you to at least cover these veterinary and document costs.

Step Four: Arranging for Transport and Travel

If we are going to arrange transport outside of the Argos area or abroad, we also will need your help to cover this cost.

We have organisations and contacts in Austria, the Netherlands, Germany and Luxembourg who can help facilitate some of the process. In these cases, we can arrange the adoption remotely and have the animal transported to a place near you.

AdoptTourism – Visiting us for the Full Experience

If you are looking for the full experience, we welcome you to come to us in Greece! You can come to meet our animals and see exactly where they come from. We really value the opportunity to get to know you, let you meet all of our animals, and spend time with your chosen one before you take him or her into your home. This process really eases the stress on your animal before it takes its big journey to a forever home. Our dog trainer will spend time with you and your dog free of charge to help make the transition into your family as smooth as possible. Our volunteers can show you around the local area and you can even come out on community dog missions, to care for our street dogs! If you choose to come and adopt a dog in person, we will ask only that you pay for the travel document, as you will have the cost of your travel.
