About

Eleni studied Astronomy and Astrophysics in the UK, and although she worked for a few years as a computer programmer, her heart eventually led her to teaching. She discovered how rewarding it was to inspire young people, to share the wonders of Science, and to feel the joy of curiosity in the classroom. After 15 years in the UK, she returned to Greece, where she continues to teach Science in local schools in the Argos area.

But alongside her career, another calling was growing stronger in her life: her love for animals. In 2006, after witnessing the heartbreaking reality of many strays in Argos—poisoned, abandoned, or cruelly thrown alive into rubbish bins—she founded the Animal Organisation Laiza. From that moment on, giving a voice and a safe place to animals in need became part of her life’s purpose.

At home, her family is never complete without the animals she has rescued. Two beloved dogs, Bella and Reggie, and seven rescued cats share her everyday life, filling it with love, mischief, and companionship. Over the years, she has fostered countless strays, opening her home as a shelter where frightened, hungry, and neglected animals could find warmth, care, and the chance to heal.
